My 3-4 year old male cat, a former stray, fathered kittens with a female stray. We adopted one of the kittens, Simba, and they would fight, but not seriously. However, when the female stray had new kittens (not fathered by our cat), he began fighting them too. Today, we found one of the new kittens dead and bloody, apparently killed by our male cat. We're shocked and disturbed, and don't know what to do with our cats.

Cats can't walk on their tiptoes if they have been cut off by declawing. These poor babies have lifelong deformity and pain. I have seen big cats have to walk on the equivalent to our wrists and elbows. Heartbreaking.

I'd grown up with outdoor cats, but my newest kitty is indoor/outdoor. I'd never noticed a cat passing gas, ever! I don't know if the fact they were outside made it easier to miss. However, just after we got our latest one, I got hit by some silent but deadly ones for a short time after she first got home. I haven't noticed anything in well over a year so I imagine it was the change in diet, etc.

I’ve had my short hair tabby for 11 years and I still do not have her figured out. Just when I think I’m making headway, she goes into elderly cat stage and everything about her has changed. I took her to 3 vets … $1400 … just to find out on my own that she is getting older. She doesn’t require as much food, she doesn’t go outside as often, spends a lot of time meowing at me, it goes on and on. So now I am back to square one with her. lol. I am normally home with her all day. When I have to leave the house, it no more than 5-6 hours. So she is never neglected. She has trained me very well. Every time she meows, I get up and let her show me what she wants … usually it’s just a treat. One time, we had some hurricane damage and she kept meowing over and over and I followed her outside … she wanted to show me that part of our fence was down. She walked over to it and looked at me and I bent down to give her pets and told her good girl. She responds to that very well. She does have adhd however. When we play, it lasts for about one minute or less and she starts grooming herself or she runs away. She comes back in 10 minutes and wants to play again. Same thing happens. I’ve tried different toys, same outcome. She’s this way with everything though … eating, sleeping, biscuit making, everything. She can’t stay focused, which drives her mama crazy. lol.

I have had a lot of cats so I already knew all this info but I love all things cat so I had to watch.

Some polydactyl cats with the mitten paws will use that extra digit similar to an opposable thumb. If you watch them closely, you’ll see them using it to help pick up toys and things. It won’t allow for a full grasp like a thumb, but enough so they can get a better purchase on some objects. There is one thing you should watch out for with extra toes, is a tendency for some claws to grow into the skin. If you have a polydactyl, it’s a good idea to examine them for this on occasion.

Is it made with WIRE mesh, or is that plastic????? Plastic wouldn’t last very long with MY cats.

Just wondering... who really cuts their cats claws (if you have a normal active cat. If you got a cat that needs a litter carried by slaves to its feast, then I understand)? Usually providing them with plenty of scratch areas (I got 5 cat trees for my two cats at the moment) should be enough. Even better, if they have access to the great outdoors and can hunt and climb at their leisure.

The most important difference is that dogs have evolved to live with us. Cats haven't!

Would the zootopia animals be considered plantigrade since they walk on their heels? But they also go to all fours sometimes and run around much faster that way.

I’ve always considered it cruel to dress or bath your cat. There’s never a reason to put costumes or clothes on your cat. Give them some respect. There’s only a a small amount of reasons to bathe your cat. Such as they’ve got into something harmful to them. They’re sick or elderly and are finding caring for themselves properly. You’ve been told to by your vet. Cats can look after themselves they don’t need you to do it for them. Show them more respect, play with them. Love them in a way that they find comfortable.

I suspect the constant and unpredictable motion, and the constant change of sights and sounds, do not help either. Cats like routine, and predictability. as well as being in control of their surroundings.

I had a fur baby who loved to get his feet rubbed, especially in between his toe beans. He’d stretch his legs out and spread his toes for me to rub them.

We had a polydactyl named Mr. Feets. Lol

I'm an introvert and I prefer dogs over cats, although rocks are the best pets ever.

My brother's polydactyl uses her "thumb" to pick up things. We make sure to keep dangerous items out of her way

Dogs are slightly better than cats, but nothing compares to a pet rock. Rocks can be found everywhere, they are silent, their lifespan is almost infinite, they don't require food or water, they can keep undesired people away, they don't shit and piss allover, they don't require training, you can pet them when you want and you can always find them where you left them.

What I've noticed is that cat people don't hate dogs. They may not like them as much or are ambivalent towards them but they don't hate them. However, most dog people hate cats.
